Moving Pro Tips

Expert advice from Ela and her concierge team to make your Cincinnati move as smooth as possible.

Pack Smart, Not Hard

Use the "room-by-room" method: pack one room completely before starting the next. Label every box on the top AND side with the room name and a brief list of contents. Color-coded tape (one color per room) makes unloading lightning fast.

Choosing the Right Mover

Get at least 3 in-home estimates — never accept a quote given only over the phone. Verify the company is licensed (USDOT number), insured, and has strong reviews. Ask about their claims process before signing. For Cincinnati moves, Ela recommends vetted local companies.

Timing Your Move

If possible, avoid moving during the last week of the month (peak demand), summer weekends (highest rates), and major holidays. Mid-week, mid-month moves in fall or winter can save 20-30% on moving costs. Cincinnati weather is most predictable in May, September, and October.

The Essentials Box

Your "first night" box is the most important box you will pack. Include: phone chargers, toiletries, medications, pajamas, a change of clothes, bed sheets, towels, toilet paper, paper plates, disposable utensils, snacks, coffee maker, and a corkscrew (you will want that glass of wine).

Protect Your Valuables

Never pack irreplaceable items (jewelry, important documents, family photos, medications, laptops) on the moving truck. Carry these in your personal vehicle. Take photos of expensive electronics and their serial numbers for insurance purposes.

Cincinnati-Specific Tips

Cincinnati has hills, narrow streets, and sometimes unpredictable weather. Alert your moving company about any steep driveways or tight turns. If moving to Indian Hill, some properties have long private drives — confirm the truck can navigate them. Street parking permits may be needed in Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout.
